The Entire Business of Comming Closer, 2007
Durable ink-jet prints, nails, 320 x 245 cm
Installation view and details Nederlands Achitectuurinstituut, Rotterdam
The Entire Business of Coming Closer is an attempt to encapsulate a personal recollection of a specific place in images. The work focuses on a house in Apollo Bay, a small village on the south coast of Australia. The house is taken as a starting point for the exploration of the construction and fragmentation of both architecture and memory. In this installation, which contains photographs, collage and video, the contructed nature of that memory is emphasised. The process of reconstruction is carried out on the basis of a sort of enveloping movement in which the essence seems to lie just outside the centre. The elements are recognisable, everyday and almost inevitable, but at the same time they seem to have more in common with fiction than with reality.
The Entire Business of Coming Closer was created in dialogue with
Helen Grogan.
